This peach-raspberry surprise smoothie is delicious and refreshing! We make it gently layered for a beautiful and easy way to enjoy fresh peaches and tart raspberries. The surprises are the zucchini and hemp seeds that add to the nutrition!
I'd love to say that this recipe will use enough zucchini for all the excess from your backyard harvest, if you are one of those who is desperate to give them away! But it's a start, right? And small zucchini can be quite sweet, so you could experiment with adding more than the ⅓ cup per smoothie here.
But seriously -- a chunk of zucchini and a spoonful of hemp seed add body and protein while maintaining wonderful fruity and refreshing flavors. My 1-year-old grandson loves this smoothie!
It’s such a simple recipe that the proportions are really more of a suggestion. Once you have the ingredients assembled, it takes just a few minutes to make. You can even make it gently layered, as I did in this batch.
I used almond milk because I like the flavor. However, you could sub any milk of your choice such as rice, hemp, soy or dairy.
Tips for making this recipe:
If you want a really big difference in color between the two layers, remove the skins from the peaches before blending them, so that the red colors in the skins don’t make that layer redder.
If you do the raspberry layer first as I did, be sure to rinse the blender - I couldn’t stand to waste any of the raspberry layer, so I didn’t. That's why the peach layer looks slightly pink. Lazy me.
I froze peach slices instead of using ice to make this a cold smoothie. I learned the hard way that those slices right out of the freezer just bumped around in the smoothie and didn’t blend. They needed to thaw at least 15 minutes!
The raspberries are small enough that they blend up just fine when frozen.
I peeled the zucchini so that there wouldn’t be green flecks in the smoothie. But you could also leave them unpeeled if you aren’t trying to surprise someone.
This recipe made 3 ⅓ cups, which was more than enough to fill two tall 8-ounce glasses with about 6 ounces left over.

Peach-Raspberry Surprise Smoothie
Ingredients
Peach-berry (bottom) layer
- ½ cup frozen raspberries
- ½ cup frozen peaches slightly thawed
- ⅓ cup peeled and chopped zucchini
- ⅓ cup unsweetened almond milk or other non-dairy milk of choice
- 1 tablespoon hulled hemp seed
Peach (top) layer
- 1 cup frozen peaches slightly thawed
- ⅓ cup peeled and chopped zucchini
- ⅓ cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 tablespoon hulled hemp seed
- Pinch of ground cinnamon optional
Instructions
- For the raspberry (bottom) layer: Place all ingredients in blender (I use a Vitamix) and puree until smooth.
- Divide between two glasses. To get the largest difference between the layers, either use a flexible spatula to remove the puree or rinse the blender.
- For the Peach (top) layer: Place all ingredients in blender and puree until smooth. Divide between the two glasses, pouring mixture slowly down the side of the glass to keep the layers separated.
- Garnish with frozen raspberries, a sprinkle of hemp seed, and slices of zucchini.
- Serve!

I'm totally craving one of these right now! They look so refreshing! I bet my grandson would love these too! Thanks for the tip on thawing the peach out a bit.
Beth
Kendra, your grandson would surely love this as much as mine did. He likes cold things and peaches, so this was both. It is such a great use of our local peaches!
Patrice
Love the addition of zucchini and hemp in this smoothie. And your photos are lovely as always.
Beth
Thank you so much for both comments! It's a really satisfying mixture, for sure.
Cindy
I have a fruit smoothie every morning for breakfast. This one looks gorgeous and delicious!
Beth
Cindy, yes, it was both of those things, and such a treat with fresh peaches! Great to enjoy fruit in season.

These are beautiful and love the idea of adding zucchini! In all my smoothie making years, I never thought of adding this versatile veg it's the perfect way to add some extra vitamins, especially for the little ones! Thank you for sharing 🙂
Beth
Angela, having tried the zucchini in this smoothie makes me realize how sweet a vegetable it can be (if picked fairly small) though I usually associate it with savory dishes. Thanks so much for the lovely comment!
Melissa
This sounds like a delicious flavor combination! I've really taken to making smoothies since we invested in a decent blender. And I love the addition of zucchini -- I'm guilty of putting beans in mine!
Beth
Melissa, I can imagine beans in a smoothie, for sure! They'd give it a lot of body. I'd have to think about how that would go with peaches, hmm. But I often throw avocado into a smoothie - maybe you already do that. It's great to have a blender that will do the job.
