Hurricane Mocktail Recipe - Fruit-Sweetened

This Hurricane Mocktail is a naturally sweet blend of passion, pineapple and citrus juices, with raspberry-lime sparkling water as a pink upper layer. Garnished with maraschino cherries, this recipe is free of red dyes and doesn’t need simple syrup. Enjoy for Mardi Gras or any festive occasion!

Ingredients

For the juice base

  • 2 cups passion fruit juice or passion fruit/juice blend see note
  • 1 cup orange juice fresh squeezed
  • 1 cup pineapple juice fresh or from concentrate
  • ½ cup lime juice freshly squeezed, about 2 large or 4 medium limes
  • ½ cup pomegranate juice optional, see note
  • 1 teaspoon rum extract 5 ml, optional
  • 1-2 cans raspberry-lime Spindrift chilled
  • 18 Ice cubes 2-3 for each glass

For the garnishes

  • 12 maraschino cherries 2 per glass, omit for Whole 30
  • Lime slices 1 per glass
  • Orange slices 3, cut in fourths
  • 6 bamboo skewers

Instructions

  • Assemble ingredients; omit Pomegranate juice if using Spindrift to top the drinks.

  • Juice the oranges and limes and prepare the other juices and garnish pieces.
  • Combine all the drink ingredients except the raspberry-lime Spindrift and the ice in a large pitcher.  Cover and refrigerate the pitcher if you're making this ahead.
  • When ready to serve, place 2-3 cubes of ice in each glass, then fill each hurricane glass ¾ full. 
  • Pour raspberry-lime Spindrift carefully into each glass, leaving about ¼ inch for the space that the garnish will take up. For a bottom-up sunrise effect, don’t stir.  Garnish with a pick of maraschino cherries (omit for Whole 30 - sorry, even these no-red-dye cherries do contain sugar), lime slice and orange wedges.  Serve right away.

Orange juice: fresh-squeezed
Lime juice: fresh-squeezed
Pineapple juice: from Dole’s 100% concentrate
Passionfruit juice: a blend of passionfruit and pear juice by Ceres
Maraschino cherries with no red dye from Tillen Farms - they are sweetened with sugar
